Gilles Joseph Arthur Chabot
January 28, 1946 – March 11, 2021
On the evening of Thursday March 11, 2021, our beloved husband, father, and Papa passed away at the age of 75 years.
Born in Saint-Charles de Bellechasse, Quebec, he came to Alberta in 1963 in search of a great adventure. Gilles had a passion for logging and spent almost 40 years in the industry. Starting as a tree choker and by continuing to work hard, he successfully owned and operated his own company for more than 20 years.
Throughout his life he spent many months traveling with his family and loved taking long trips to Quebec, across Canada and into the United States with his motorhome. Upon retirement, he moved to Whitecourt to be closer to his family, where he discovered a new community, made new friendships, and spent many afternoons at his river lot.
He will be greatly missed by his wife Nicole of 46 years, daughters; Tina (Neal Makkonen) Chabot and Nancy (Edward) Domijan, grandchildren; Kaden, Kali and Bennett, as well as siblings; Céline (Paul-Émile) Lamonde, André (Louise) Chabot, Ginette (Laurent) Turgeon and Sylvie Chabot, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is now eternally joined with his parents; Gérard and Rosalie Chabot, sister; Pierrette and his baby boy Mario.
A private family service will be held in the Saint Joseph Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, March 20th at 11am with Father Benjamin Belgica officiating.
For those that cannot attend, the service will be available through live streaming on the website.
Gilles’ family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the first responders and their neighbours for all the love and support that has been provided.
If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made directly to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
