John Nelson Jacobson
March 15, 1942 – February 27, 2021
We are very sad to announce the passing of John Jacobson on February 27, 2021 at the age of 78 years.
Born in Edson, John began his working history as an Industrial Radiographer, where he inspected welds on aircraft but then served mostly on pipelines. John then turned his interest towards logging and later operated a piling company. For more than 50 years, John enjoyed the beauty of Drayton Valley and it’s surrounding areas. After the passing of his daughter Roxanne in 1986, John made it his purpose and mission to do something in her honour; from scratch, he developed and built Louie Lake. It is there that he created many life-long friendships and countless beautiful memories.
John will forever be lovingly remembered by his companion, partner and best friend, Sharon Blanchard; grandchildren, Francis Lightfoot, Nelson (Katrina) Lightfoot and Emma Lightfoot; sisters, Colleen Bodenchuck, Marion Berglund, Gail (Jerry) Van Kosky and Kathy (Arnold) Simmons; son-in-law, Frank (Shelly) Lightfoot; his special friend and buddy, Laura Campbell; his sidekick, Rod McLellan, as well as numerous extended family and many friends.
John is predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Margaret Jacobson; daughter, Roxanne Lightfoot; parents, John and Mary Jacobson; sister Karen Schmidek; infant sister, Sonja Jacobson and 5 nephews.
John’s life will be celebrated on Monday, March 8, 2021 from the Chapel at Affinity Funeral Service. For those unable to attend due to Covid-19 restrictions, livestreaming will be available.
John’s family would like to extend their great appreciation to Dr. Froud, as well as to the nurses and all staff at Drayton Valley Hospital and Care Centre for their contribution to his care.
It is in this spirit of gratitude that the family would ask that in lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Drayton Valley Health Foundation for the Palliative Care Suite Renovation Campaign at dvhealthfound.ca or call 780.621.4914.
