Lillian Wilhelm

January 25, 1935 – March 17, 2021

Our hearts are broken to announce the passing of Lillian Wilhelm at Drayton Valley Hospital and Care Centre on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at the age of 86 years.

She will be lovingly remembered by her three sons, Edward (Sheila), Robert (Karen) and Alvin (Karen); grandchildren, Jared, Colin (April), Robby (Jacie), Tyson (Sarah Hodgson), Geoffrey, Tiffany and Krystopher, as well as by nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and sister, Violet.  Lillian is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Lillian is predeceased by her loving husband of 64 years, Benjamin; her parents, Lydia Poersch and Adolf Steark and her brother, Ed Steark.

Lillian was born on January 25, 1935 at Hanover, Manitoba. She grew up in the Steinbach, Manitoba area and lived in Pansy, Manitoba until the age of about 6 years.

Following the Red River flood, the Steark family made a move to Gainsborough, Saskatchewan in 1950.  It was while she was at the TB Hospital at Fort San that she met Ben.

In 1952, Lillian endured a spinal fusion, but she wouldn’t let that stop her from her adventures. In 1953, travelling by train, she made her way to Winnipeg, Manitoba to work as a seamstress in a sewing factory.

Three years later, she made the decision to follow her heart and make her way to Regina.  In July of 1956 Lillian and Ben were engaged to be married, and united in marriage on September 29, 1956.

Not too long following their marriage, Ben and Lillian began their family.  First to arrive was Edward in 1957, followed by the birth of Robert in 1958, then Alvin in 1960 to complete their family.

In addition to raising her boys, Lillian did odd jobs, earned extra money by sewing from home and enjoyed knitting, sewing and gardening.

She will forever be loved.

A service of Remembrance will be held on Friday, July 2, at Emmaus Lutheran Church, Drayton Valley, Alberta at 11:00 am with Pastor Robert Marshall officiating. Interment will follow at River View Cemetery.
